Current-dollar estimates refer to economic data or statistics that are expressed in the actual dollar value for the time period they represent, without any adjustments for inflation.

In other words, current-dollar estimates show the nominal value of something, like GDP, income, spending, etc., measured in the prices that prevailed during the period being measured.

Some key points about current-dollar estimates:

    1. They do not account for changes in purchasing power of the dollar over time due to inflation or deflation.
    2. They reflect the prices at the time the expenditures or income occurred.
    3. They allow for a straightforward calculation of percentage changes between two periods without having to account for inflation adjustments.
    4. The values fluctuate from year to year due to both changes in real output/income as well as changes in prices.
    5. They are often contrasted with real/constant-dollar estimates, which remove the effects of inflation by expressing values in consistent dollar terms from a chosen base year.

Current-dollar estimates are useful for looking at year-to-year money flows and changes. But for analyzing the real growth apart from inflation effects, economists often use constant-dollar or inflation-adjusted estimates instead.
