Local journalist Tariq Hafeez from Bahawalnagar reported that the conflict erupted on April 8th when SHO Rizwan Abbas from Madrasah Police Station conducted a raid on the residence of army official Muhammad Khalil, resulting in his family being assaulted.
Hafeez alleged that this raid was orchestrated by Muhammad Khalil’s adversaries and faced resistance from the local populace. He also claimed that the police officers allegedly confiscated valuables and cash during the raid, prompting a confrontation where the family and locals disarmed the policemen.
Subsequently, a case was filed against the military official and his family by the police for obstructing government duties. The police stated that during a routine patrol, they encountered suspicious individuals who sought refuge at Muhammad Khalil’s house, leading to the raid where weapons were allegedly recovered without proper licensing.
In response, Mohammad Khalil’s family allegedly detained the police officers while a subsequent raid by SHO Rizwan Abbas at Muhammad Anwar Jutt’s residence resulted in further altercations and hostage situations.
Following these events, additional police forces, including elite units, were called in, leading to the arrest of several individuals, including Mohammad Anwar Jutt, Mohammad Khalil, and Mohammad Idris, with charges brought against 23 people.
Tariq Hafeez also reported that in response to the incident, Muhammad Khalil notified his organization, leading to plainclothes officers allegedly assaulting police personnel at the madrasa and city police stations, with videos of these incidents circulating on social media.
